Find your wood texture, it would be better if it has more like sharpen edges, veins or cracks. You would try searcing “old wood texture”.

Duplicate your image.

[dropcap1 variation=”red”]3[/dropcap1]
Increase contrasts of your image.

Desaturate it. We only need its black and white info. Displacement Maps use this data; black or white.

Make your final adjustments. If you are familiar with 3d softwares it is the same thing with Bump Maps.

Save it to your harddisk, name it like displacement map.

Turn back to your original image and write something with text tool.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/08.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]8[/dropcap1]
When you are finished writing select both background and text layer and merge them. (Be sure to hold original layers, because we are going to use them later on.)
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/09.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]9[/dropcap1]
Go to Filter > Displace.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/10.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]10[/dropcap1]
At this time it really depends on how big your image is or how distorted you want to see your text on a wood.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/11.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]11[/dropcap1]
For this project we used 1 px and 1 px for both horizantal scale and vertical scale.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/12.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]12[/dropcap1]
Turn back to your original text layer and get its selection.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/13.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]13[/dropcap1]
Then keeping your selection still select merged layers and do apply “layer via copy”.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/14.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]14[/dropcap1]
Give it a little bit motion blur to get realistic ink effect.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/15.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]15[/dropcap1]
Change its layer mode to multiply and decrease the opacity to %55. Merge it again merged layers. Make selection on your original text layer. Again apply “layer via copy” from merged layers.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/16.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]16[/dropcap1]
Apply the layer styles above.
[image_frame style=”framed_shadow” align=”left” title=”How to get a color palette of an image using photoshop?” height=”250″ width=”560″]http://creativetuts.com/wp-content/images/tutorials/photoshop-tutorials/stamptext/17.png[/image_frame]
[dropcap1 variation=”red”]17[/dropcap1]
Give it a stroke in 1px with overlay mode %28. Change its fill type to gradient. Set angle to 90 degree and play with the colours of your gradient.
Now, here is the result. You have a realistic looking stamp text on a wooden box.
